Michael Maddocks is a freelance trumpet player based in Cambridge. He studied at Birmingham Conservatoire with Paul Mayes, Andy Stone-Fewings and Percy Pursglove. Since leaving Conservatoire, Michael has had lessons with Mike Lovatt, Tony Glausi, Bryan Davis, Graham Justin and Pablo Mendelssohn.


Michael performed with Heartbeat of Home in their China, European and West End stints during 2018 & 2019. Michael co-runs DB Horns who work on projects such as The Carpenters Experience, The Best of Wham, And Finally Phil Collins, In The Air Tonight, and Talons: Best of the Eagles as well as regular musical theatre dates (including Phantom of the Opera, Sister Act, Sweeney Todd and many more). Michael frequently plays in sessions with the London Musical Theatre Orchestra (including their professional launch in June 2016, State Fair in November 2016 and Candide in July 2017) and in 2014 performed a new musical named "Riptide" at the Edinburgh Fringe, earning 5 star reviews. Michael has also toured with Sincerely Yours Vera Lynn, a theatre show celebrating Vera Lynn's 100th Birthday. 

Michael's recording history includes work for Sony Music, BBC Radio and independent artists such as Tilly Valentine.

Michael plays in Big Bands, including playing lead trumpet with the And Finally Big Band on both tours of the UK and Jersey. Michael also has a wide range of Orchestral and Wind Ensemble experience, ranging from Handel's Messiah, Verdi Requim to Lutoslawski Symphony no.4 and Mahler Symphony no.1. In 2011 Michael formed the band "A Hand Full of Jazz" which became a regular function group after winning 2 awards. 

Michael has privately taught Trumpet and Piano for 8 years and in 2015 & 2016 Michael was a supply teacher for Dudley Music service. He conducted the Zephyr Wind Band in Rugby since September 2014 - 2016 and Royal Spa Brass in Leamington since May 2015 - May. 2017.
